merry and bright

First of all, Merry Christmas! I have the most beautiful family and the most wonderful friends, and I cherish each and every one of you. Thank you for putting so much magic in my life.

I haven’t been this excited for Christmas day in a long time. I’m ALWAYS excited, but this year I was particularly revved up. I had the means to buy really nice presents without having to really count nickels and dimes, and matching the gift to the person is always a blast. From books by Civil War columnists to the complete set of Firefly, giving was extraordinarily awesome this year. I have to say, my baby sister and I read each other’s minds. We guessed over the gifts for weeks in advance, and it turns out we were both right on our first guess. One hint, and BOOM.

Me: It’s…one of our things.

Riah: Did you get me MURDOC (aka the assassin from MacGyver and the sole reason we watch the show)??

Yes, in fact: I got my hands on a copy of Michael Des Barres’ CD (Murdoc is actually a rock singer) and keeping it a secret was HARD.

Riah: It’s weaponized.

Me: Did you get me DARYL??

Well. The proof is in the pudding.

It was a very Marvel-filled Christmas – people really nailed it for me. My treasures (in no particular order) included the following:

A check from my parents (oh, the possibilities!)

A Deadpool FunkoPop

A Daryl FunkoPop

A Deadpool Comic (Deadpool vs. S.H.I.E.L.D. – I read it all this morning and laughed the whole time)

Fuzzy socks

A cashmere scarf

A fedora (it fits!!)

Lord of the Rings Sketchbook by Alan Lee (!!!!!!!)

A Captain America tee shirt

A Bucky necklace

A box of tea (♥)

Star Trek engineering socks

Snowflake earrings

A Sulu ornament (I now have Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scottie and Sulu!)

Marvel glasses (the kind you drink out of, not the kind you wear. I’ll probably use them for art supplies because they’re too pretty to keep in a cabinet)

Bobba Fett (oh, yes)

A coffee shop gift card

Dark blue/gray nail polish

This has just been a quick update – I know I’ve been a bit absent but I’ve been spending my time drawing characters from the Hobbit. That movie destroyed me beautifully and I can’t wait to see it again this weekend. Have a fantastically merry Christmas, all!

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

—Isaiah 9:6-7
